What exactly is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is the use of music to address health goals.
This can be:
- Listening to music to identify thoughts, feelings, memories
- Analyzing song lyrics to discover personal meaning
- Using music as a healthy way to cope with mental health
- Playing instruments as a healthy emotional outlet
- Therapeutic music lessons, such as guitar lessons to promote self-expression, drum or piano exercises to augment physical rehabilitation, instrument playing to increase bodily awareness/mobility following a traumatic brain injury or cerebrovascular incident (i.e., Stroke), etc.
- Verbal or nonverbal processing, active or receptive engagement with live instruments or recorded music.

What if I can't sing or play an instrument?
No music training, experience, or instruments are
necessary! All you need is a commitment to participate and
a readiness to discover how music can uncover and
improve your individual strengths and goals.
